- Providing One-Stop Service for paying annual registration fee -

From now on, holders of patent/utility model right/design right can pay their annual registration fee more conveniently.

In order to retain their patent/utility model right/design right, holders must pay the related annual registration fee. The payment system for this fee had been somewhat complicated, and KIPO (Commissioner: JUN, Sang Woo) announced that they would provide an improved payment system that allows customers to
pay their annual registration fee easily.

In order to prevent rights from being terminated against the holders’ intention, KIPO has provided a ‘termination noticing service’, that informs the holders’ payment period for the annual registration fee. Under this service, informed holders still suffered inconvenience of visiting KIPO to receive related bills, then visiting the bank again to pay.

In order to resolve this inconvenience, KIPO decided to provide a ‘One-Stop Service for Paying Annual Registration Fee’, where a Giro bill is issued upon the notice of the holders’ payment period.

With this improved service, remote right holders don’t have to visit KIPO to receive their Giro bill.

Chief Heung Kyu Lee of Registration Service Team, Customer Support Bureau, KIPO commented that ‘One-Stop Service for Paying Annual Registration Fee’ is a service improvement project focused on customers. He also said that KIPO will continue to improve its services until the customers are impressed, fulfilling the office’s role as a responsible operation agency.

‘One-Stop Service for Paying Annual Registration Fee’ is not a mandatory notification policy of KIPO, but rather a customer service. Right holders may not receive related notices if the actual address of the holder is different from the address in the registration list. To ensure accurate delivery of notices, holders must immediately report their change in address (applying for change in registrant’s indication) to KIPO.
